Equipment

  • 1 Medium mixing bowl
  • 1 10-12 inch iron skillet or 9x13 baking dish

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour spooned and leveled
  • 1 cup old fashioned oats
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • ½ cup light brown sugar tightly packed
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 (21-ounce) cans apple pie filling
  • ½ cup caramel sauce

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a medium or large mixing bowl, mix the flour, butter, brown sugar, oats, and cinnamon using your hands or a wooden spoon.
  • Pour the apple pie filling and caramel sauce into a 10 or 12-inch iron skillet. Sprinkle the brown sugar and oat mixture on top evenly.
  • Bake the crisp for about 35 minutes or until the filling is bubbling around the edges and the crisp topping has browned.
  • Let the crisp rest for 20 minutes before serving with ice cream and extra caramel sauce.

Notes

  • Salted butter can be used instead of unsalted butter.
  • If you don't have an iron skillet, this can be baked in a 9x13 baking dish or pan.
  • I like to use my hands to mix the crisp topping so the butter will be thoroughly mixed in.
