I remember the very first Pumpkin Spice Latte (aka PSL) I had… That’s how much of an impact this flavorful spice blend had on me. Fall is my favorite season, and every year I wait impatiently for the day I can start baking all of the wonderful desserts that come with the season.

With this recipe, you can transform your kitchen into a cozy fall haven with this aromatic symphony of warm cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, allspice, and cloves. Skip the store-bought version and create this bold spice blend that’ll have everyone asking for your secret!

This spice mix works beautifully in my Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Loaf, White Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Cookies, and Brownie Bottom Pumpkin Cheesecake.

What spices do I need to make this blend?

Spoons full of spices that make up Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice laid out on parchment paper.

You’ve got ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger, but I do something a little bit different with my pumpkin pie spice.

I use both ground allspice and cloves for a stronger, warmer flavor. Trust me, your baked goods will be elevated with this adjustment!

What equipment do I need to make this?

No fancy equipment needed at all! A small or medium bowl and a whisk or spoon.

Two easy steps to make Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice

Pour all of the spices into a small or medium mixing bowl, and stir everything together until well mixed.

Store in an airtight jar or container for up to 6 months in the cupboard.

Can I grind whole spices for this recipe?

Absolutely! The fresher the spices the stronger the flavor will be and the longer the spice will be potent.

Will this make a good substitute for any recipe that calls for Pumpkin Pie Spice?

Yes! I find that store-bought pumpkin pie spice, while convenient, is more expensive than using the ingredients you may already have at home, and the flavor is much stronger.

Can I omit the cloves or allspice?

You can get rid of the cloves or allspice, but I think these both complement the cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger really well. They also add a little bit of a kick to the spice mix.

Mace is another spice that you can add to the mix!
