Confession time! I do not like summer. I'm not a fan of the heat or the busy travel season, so I prefer to stay home in the comfortable air conditioning. What I do like about summer: the food and the cool beverages.

You are going to love this smoothie. Not only is it the perfect balance of tartness and sweetness, but it also looks impressive. The perfect treat for your guests as you lounge around the pool.

What ingredients do I need for the Strawberry Mango Smoothie?

Orange juice - Store-bought or fresh-squeezed orange juice both work well. The smoothie will be sweeter with bottled orange juice because of the extra sugar.

Vanilla yogurt - I used vanilla Greek yogurt. Thickens the smoothie.

Frozen mango chunks - I bought an 8-ounce package of fresh mango chunks, diced them, and froze them overnight.

Honey - I used organic honey. Adds sweetness to the strawberry layer of the smoothie.

Frozen strawberries - I diced up about 8 ounces of fresh strawberries and froze them overnight.

Can I make any substitutions to the recipe ingredients?

Of course!

  • You can use plain or Greek yogurt.
  • There are mango-flavored orange juices you can use instead of regular orange juice.
  • Try maple syrup instead of honey.

What's the serving temperature?

You want to enjoy smoothies while they are ice cold.

Am I able to make these smoothies ahead and store them?

These smoothies are best served immediately, but you can also store them in an airtight container in the freezer for a day or two. You'll have to let them thaw slightly in the fridge for 6-8 hours, or leave them on the counter for ½ an hour to an hour so it's easier to drink.

They may become a little watered down in the thawing process.

Is there a particular order I should add the ingredients into the blender for a smoothie?

Yes! When you are adding ingredients to a blender, always start with the liquid ingredients and put the solid ingredients in last. The liquids will create a vortex that will pull the solids to the blades.

Tips for making Strawberry Mango Smoothies

•  When you are adding ingredients to a blender, always start with the liquid ingredients and put the solid ingredients in last. The liquids will create a vortex that will pull the solids to the blades.

•  The total yield is 24 ounces. It can easily be split between 2 (12-ounce) glasses or 3 (8-ounce) glasses.

•  To double the recipe, use 1 cup of orange juice for each layer, then double the amount of the other ingredients. Doubling the juice will cause the smoothies to be too runny.
